On Thursday 24 November, the European Parliament (EP) adopted a resolution on the situation in Belarus. This addresses elections in the country, expresses concern at the lack of progress, and calls on the Belarusian authorites to address these concerns.

Women’s Resource Center Armenia (WRCA), member of Human Rights House Yerevan, has received the “With and For Girls Award” in recognition of its work to improve the lives of girls. The award is administered by the With and For Girls Collective – a group of seven organisations united by a common belief that girls are agents of change.

In accordance to the survey report by the UN Population Fund, every 11th women is victim of domestic violence. According to the report of the Public Defender of Georgia, 21 women were killed in Georgia in 2013, 23 women were killed in 2014 and 28 facts of femicide and attempted femicide were observed in 2015. It is brief and alarming statistics provided by the civil society in Georgia.

The exhibition of Maxim Sarychau “Stolen days” is located at the cell # 8 of former KGB prison in Vilnius (Museum of the genocide victims). This is the first major show of the project, which was opened on December 1st and will be available till March 12th, 2017. Exhibition was created with the help of “Viasna” HRC Volunteer Service.

On day two of the #HRHN2016 Assembly, the Human Rights Houses, joined by external experts, discussed the growing trend toward illiberal democracy, autocracy, and populism, and proposed solutions for how civil society can resist this trend.

From 18 to 20 November Vilnius hosted a conference dedicated to the 40th anniversary of the application of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights in the national legal systems of Belarus, Russia, Poland, Norway, Ukraine and Lithuania.

Each Human Rights House presented and discussed their work, and then the focus expanded to joint activities, specifically the Network campaign to protect and support human rights defenders in Azerbaijan. Discussions then turned to opportunities for partnership with donors, and how donors and civil society can address State restrictions on foreign funding.
