Polish women have gone on strike in protest of anti-abortion law

On Monday 3 October, in many Polish cities, women and men protested against a draft law that would introduce a complete ban on abortion. Protesters, dressed in black, have united under the slogan “Black protest” and the hashtag #czarnyprotest (meaning black protest). Our colleagues at the Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights(HFHR), based in Warsaw, reported on the situation.

Deteriorating human rights in “Russianised” Crimea needs international scrutiny

At the United Nations, Human Rights House Foundation highlighted the increasing “Russianisation” of Crimea, and the human rights violations as a consequence, and called on the international community to further scrutinise the human rights situation in Crimea. Furthermore, all parties in the on-going conflict in Eastern Ukraine must fulfil their obligations under international human rights law.
