Six Croatian NGOs move into HRH Zagreb

The six organizations that are founders of the Human Rights House Zagreb (HRH Zagreb) will move together and start functioning as a House within September 2009. First the building that was donated by the City of Zagreb will have to be renovated.

Improving social services for asylum seekers

Center for Peace Studies – CMS held a training from 8th-10th January where the Coordination body of organizations for providing social services to asylum seekers in the Republic of Croatia was established. The training was held within CMS long planned project regarding improvement of social services for asylum seekers.

Croatia: World Report 2009

Republic of Croatia made modest improvements in human rights in 2008, motivated by its desire to join the European Union, but it has yet to fully address obstacles to the return and reintegration of Serbs. The impartiality and effectiveness of domestic war crimes prosecutions remains in doubt. The closure of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe mission in December 2007 created a human rights monitoring gap.

Croatia adopts law on suppression of discrimination

On January 1st 2009, the Law on Suppression of Discrimination was officially adopted in the Republic of Croatia. The new law includes wide protection from discrimination. It defines precisely what consitutes discriminatory behaviour and determines the Ombudsman as the body in charge of suppression of discrimination.

Croat testifies at Serbia war crimes trial
