Armenia must support and protect human rights defenders

Armenian NGO PINK is being threatened and intimidated for its work on LGBT issues by sections of the public and by some political figures in Armenia. The Armenian authorities must stop this intimidation and hold those responsible to account. Human Rights House Network calls on the authorities to end their silence and inaction, and meet their obligations to protect, empower, and support human rights defenders.

International Democracy Day: We call for more space for civil society

Civil society has less and less space to breathe or even exist in many countries, let alone participate in public life. Authorities are using restrictions as a pretext to prosecute and imprison human rights defenders, criminalising the right to be a human rights defender, and the right to assemble and associate.

Building a Community for Change and Freedoms

95 lawyers from 24 countries call for the immediate and unconditional release of human rights lawyer Intigam Aliyev. He has been in jail in Azerbaijan since 8 August 2014.

UPDATED Armenia: halt police violence and release detained journalists and rights defenders

237 protestors were arrested in Armenia during the night of 22 June and early morning of 23 June, including journalists and human rights defenders. The police needs to stop using excessive force to disperse protestors and immediately and unconditionally release detained civil society actors and journalists.
