Open statement in connection with the detention of Belarusian lawyers Ilya Salei and Maksim Znak
More than 60 civil society organisations and actors, including Human Rights House Foundation, have signed an open letter expressing deep concern at the detention of lawyers Ilya Salei and Maksim Znak on September 9, 2020, in Belarus, in a criminal case which is undeniably politically motivated.

Human Rights House Foundation is very concerned about the expansion of persecution of dissenting voices in Azerbaijan. This is a deeply worrying trend that has taken place over many years and only increased under the guise of Covid-19 response since March.
Fourth annual “Educational Human Rights Fest” held in Chernihiv
From 1 – 12 August, Educational Human Rights House Chernihiv welcomed human rights defenders from across Ukraine, online and in-person, for its fourth annual human rights education festival. European Union and Member States must support human rights in Belarus
In advance of the EU’s Foreign Affairs Council meeting on 14 August, Human Rights House Foundation calls upon the EU to send a clear and strong message to the Belarusian authoritarian president, police, and his security forces that those responsible for grave human rights abuses will be held accountable.
HRHF urges immediate stop to the use of violence against peaceful protesters and calls on the international community to use all diplomatic measures to pressure authorities to do so
Human Rights House Foundation strongly condemns the widespread disproportionate use of violence on the part of the Belarusian authorities during and following the August 9 presidential election. The use of violence against peaceful protesters must end immediately and the fundamental human rights of the Belarusian people must be respected.
