On 25 February 2021, Human Rights House Foundation (HRHF) and Amnesty International pushed the Human Rights Council to take further action on Belarus. Alongside Belarusian civil society organisations, they urged the Council in a joint oral statement, to create a mechanism assisting in the process of accountability for human rights violations.

Human Rights House Foundation and Human Rights House Tbilisi condemn recent actions by the Georgian authorities to limit freedoms of expression and assembly, linked with the political crisis which has engulfed the country during past months. We call on the Georgian authorities to reverse these recent actions and take immediate steps to protect human rights in line with Georgia’s international obligations.

Following a renewed wave of persecution of the Belarusian human rights defenders, civil society activists and independent journalists, members of the Civic Solidarity Platform (CSP) strongly condemn actions of the Belarusian authorities and urge them to stop the harassment and show genuine respect towards the rights of those who seek to protect the rights of their fellow citizens and not to criminalize their legitimate human rights work.

For weeks we have been following the protests against Alexander Lukashenko’s regime in Belarus. Before us, we see a repetition of the large, seemingly leaderless demonstrations in recent years around the world — from Tahrir Square in Cairo, to the democracy riots in Hong Kong and Black Lives Matter in the United States, to the undulating crowd in Minsk.

“The very first women-only protest happened at midday on Wednesday, 12 August 2020. Women all dressed in white gathered in central Minsk, to show that we protesters are peaceful, and we are against violence.”

Three organisations working on women’s rights in different countries have connected to share experience and advocacy strategies for combatting gender-based violence.

Identifying burnout at work as “the scourge of the 21st century”, two member organisations of Human Rights House Tbilisi and Educational Human Rights House Chernihiv developed a programme for human rights defenders offering guidelines and best practices to prevent and recover from burnout.
