UN must follow EP’s lead on Azerbaijan

On 15 June, the European Parliament (EP) adopted a vital resolution on the enforced disappearance of Azerbaijani journalist Afgan Mukhtarli from Georgia. HRHF welcomes this swift response, which occurred as HRHF delivered a statement at the UN Human Rights Council (HRC) calling for action on the deteriorating situation in Azerbaijan.

Azerbaijani journalist Afgan Mukhtarli suddenly went missing in Tbilisi, Georgia, on the night of 29 May, leaving his relatives and colleagues without news until the next day, when he was able to contact his lawyer from the State Border Service İnvestigation Unit in Azerbaijan.

Independent observers on the streets of Warsaw during the European Economic Summit

The Rafto Prize to Daddach gives legitimacy to Saharawi people’s struggle

A member of the Norwegian Support Committee for Western Sahara was arrested on April 5 by Moroccan security forces in the capital of Western Sahara, l’Ayoune, and deported to the neighbouring country of Mauritania. He was in the Moroccan occupied territory to interview human rights activists and former political prisoners, among them Sidi Mohammed Daddach, who two years ago was awarded the Rafto Prize for his lifelong struggle for an independent Western Sahara.(20-APR-2004)
