Human Rights House Belgrade and its members have strongly condemned statements by the Serbian authorities directed against judge Miodrag Majic, who expressed his opposition to amendments to the country’s criminal code.

International Civil Society Week 2019 (ICSW) was held in Belgrade from 8-12 April 2019. Events were co-organised by Civic Initiatives (member of Human Rights House Belgrade), CIVICUS: Civic Alliance for Citizen Participation, and Balkan Civil Society Development Network.

In response to the removal of publications critical of the Serbian government at Belgrade airport, journalists together with activists from Human Rights House Belgrade gathered at the airport to promote the “banned” publications.

During a rare engagement between the Council of Europe’s decision-making body and civil society, human rights defenders and the Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights highlighted the need to support human rights defenders and raise awareness of their work in society.

At the first stop on an official trip to Serbia, Norwegian prime minister Erna Solberg visited Human Rights House Belgrade with her Serbian counterpart Ana Brnabic. At the House, the politicians had the opportunity to engage in dialogue with members of Serbian civil society.

Human Rights House Foundation delivered the following statement on Serbia to the UN Human Rights Council (HRC38) before it adopted Serbia’s Universal Periodic Review (UPR) report.
