Human rights organizations and initiatives of Belarus condemn the execution of death penalties and strongly urge authorities to abolish capital punishment.
Three death convicts were executed in Belarus on the same day (updated)
For several days Belarusian human rights defenders continue receiving information about death sentences being carried out. Henadz Yakavitski, Ivan Kulesh and Siarhei Khmialeuski were shot on the same day – 5 November.
EU Parliament maintains principled position in resolution on Belarus
On Thursday 24 November, the European Parliament (EP) adopted a resolution on the situation in Belarus. This addresses elections in the country, expresses concern at the lack of progress, and calls on the Belarusian authorites to address these concerns.
Photo exhibition “The Stolen Days”
The exhibition of Maxim Sarychau “Stolen days” is located at the cell # 8 of former KGB prison in Vilnius (Museum of the genocide victims). This is the first major show of the project, which was opened on December 1st and will be available till March 12th, 2017. Exhibition was created with the help of “Viasna” HRC Volunteer Service.

UN Belarus expert finds “no improvements” on human rights
The UN Special Rapporteur on Belarus, Miklós Haraszti, presented his report to the General Assembly yesterday, 27 October. The report focuses on human rights in electoral processes in Belarus, especially in the context of the parliamentary elections held on 11 September 2016.
Alena Tankachova was denied reduction of the Belarus entry ban period
According to the court decision, Alena Tankachova will not be able to return to Belarus until February 2018. The Ministry of Internal Affairs refused to reduce this period without explanation. The human rights defender insists that her case is politically motivated.
UN chief about death penalty “Let our actions always be guided by the moral compass of human rights”
The United Nations has spread the message of the Secretary-General on the occasion of the World Day against the Death Penalty, commemorated annually on 10 October.
