Global NGO community calls on UN and member States to maintain human rights focused response to COVID-19
Human Rights House Foundation stands with the global NGO community in advocating for human rights to be at the centre of the United Nations’ coordinated response to the COVID-19 pandemic and calling on States to respect the rule of law and legal protections for human rights in their responses. The following statements were made on behalf of more than 75 NGOs during the 9 April 2020 UN Human Rights Council’s virtual informal conversation with the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights

Concerns about responses by state authorities to the global COVID-19 crisis
The network of Human Rights Houses is concerned by recent actions on the part of state authorities across western and eastern Europe, the western Balkans, and the Caucasus in response to the escalating COVID-19 crisis. These actions, taken to combat the rising number of infections and deaths associated with COVID-19, raise questions about states’ commitments to civic freedoms and human rights.
