Human Rights House Foundation joins partners of The Coalition Against SLAPPs in Europe (CASE) in welcoming recent steps by the Council of Europe (CoE) to act on the growing threat of Strategic Lawsuits Against Public Participation (SLAPPs).

On 30 March 2022, Human Rights House Foundation delivered a statement at the 49th session of the UN Human Rights Council highlighting the human rights situation in Ukraine following the full-scale Russian invasion of the country. HRHF also highlighted the ongoing human rights crisis in Russia and called for the Council to mandate a Special Rapporteur on the human rights situation in Russia.

On 7 March 2022, the premises of Educational Human Rights House Chernihiv were damaged during an attack in the area by Russian forces. Thankfully, no one inside the property was injured. The Chernihiv region of Ukraine has seen some of the fiercest fighting and destruction, leaving many injured or dead, following the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine on 24 February.

At the 49th session of the UN Human Rights Council, Human Rights House Foundation called on the Council to press the Russian authorities on the ongoing human rights crackdown, as well as to appoint a dedicated Special Rapporteur to monitor the human rights situation in the country. These calls were delivered in a joint statement alongside Amnesty International, CIVICUS, Human Rights Watch, and FIDH.

Human Rights House Foundation joins over 25 CSOs issuing a set of recommendations to strengthen the European Union’s annual rule of law report for 2022.

On 28 March 2022, Human Rights House Foundation and several Ukrainian and international partners hosted “Supporting Ukraine, Ukrainian civil society, and Human Rights Defenders,” a pre-event for OSCE delegations and stakeholders ahead of the Supplementary Human Dimension Meeting.

On 17 March 2022, Human Rights House Foundation delivered a statement at the 49th session of the UN Human Rights Council calling for the Council to renew the mandate of the OHCHR examination of Belarus.

The international community must take immediate steps to monitor and report on human rights violations in Russia while concurrently maintaining cooperation with Russian civil society and human rights defenders.

On 11 March 2022, Human Rights House Foundation delivered a statement at the 49th session of the UN Human Rights Council highlighting the situation for Human Rights Defenders in Azerbaijan, the rise of SLAPPs in Europe, and condemning the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

In an open letter, almost 50 international NGOs, including HRHF, call on the UN General Assembly to suspend Russia’s rights of membership of the UN Human Rights Council for committing widespread, gross and systematic human rights violations, some amounting to war crimes and crimes against humanity.

On 4 March 2022, Human Rights House Foundation urged Human Rights Council action in response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine during an urgent debate at HRC49.

In a letter addressed to Russian President Vladimir Putin, 580+ members of Russian civil society voice their opposition to the invasion of Ukraine and urge an immediate end to the war.
