Human Rights House Foundation applauds the UN Human Rights Council for voting today to establish a Special Rapporteur for the situation of human rights in Russia and thanks it for its work.

In June 2022, a series of events organised by PEN Armenia, PEN Georgia and PEN America, and entitled “Burning Poet(s)” was held in Armenia highlighting and celebrating the cultural ties between Armenia and Georgia, and bringing the literary communities of both countries together to highlight free expression and human rights in the South Caucasus.

At the 50th Session of the UN Human Rights Council, Human Rights House Foundation continued its work calling on the Human Rights Council to take action on the human rights crisis in Eastern Europe characterised, in part, by the full-scale invasion of Ukraine by the Russian Federation, and the increasingly dire human rights situation in Belarus.

150+ young activists from across Eastern Europe and the Caucasus participated in over 100 hours of online training in a new school for young human rights defenders launched by six Human Rights Houses in 2020.

Aiming to break the wall of silence surrounding Crimea, representatives of Human Rights Houses from Azerbaijan, Ukraine, and Belarus undertook a mission to the occupied peninsula between 14-18 September 2018.

Identifying burnout at work as “the scourge of the 21st century”, two member organisations of Human Rights House Tbilisi and Educational Human Rights House Chernihiv developed a programme for human rights defenders offering guidelines and best practices to prevent and recover from burnout.
