Секретариат международной Сети домов прав человека сообщает, что в связи с поступлением большого количества заявок на участие в программе дистанционного обучения адвокатов и юристов международному праву прав человека и необходимостью продлить срок рассмотрения поступивших документов, объявление о решении конкурсной комиссии откладывается.

Freedom for political prisoners

International human rights NGOs, including the Human Rights House Foundation, are deeply concerned by the continued politically motivated imprisonment of persons in Azerbaijan for exercising their right to freedom of expression. The IPGA calls on the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) to take immediate action to ensure the release of these persons and to hold Azerbaijan accountable for its obligations as a Member State.

The 20 year old Azerbaijani activist Jabbar Savalanli, arrested last February, was pardoned late December 2011. But still more than 15 demonstrators from last years mass rallies in Baku remain imprisoned.

Azerbaijani human rights lawyer Intigam Aliyev detained and beaten at Istanbul airport

Intigam Aliyev was detained for more than 24 hours at the Istanbul airport since Tuesday evening, 6th of December 2011. He reported that he had been beaten by the immigration officer twice before he was deported to Baku, late evening on the 7th of December.

Azerbaijan: Joint call for justice for Rafiq Tagi

Prominent Azerbaijani journalist and writer, Rafiq Tagi, died in Baku on 23 November from the injuries he sustained during a brutal knife attack four days earlier. Rafiq’s death on 23 November – the world’s first International Day to End Impunity – is a chilling reminder of the dangers faced by journalists in Azerbaijan.

Venice Commission critical to Azerbaijani NGO Law

On 19 October 2011, the Venice Commission adopted its opinion on the Azerbaijani NGO Law, which, among others, discussed the new requirements for foreign NGOs and the closure of the Human Rights House Azerbaijan (HRHA). It held that new requirements are against the core of democratic values and the conditions set are problematic.
