Crackdowns by Azerbaijan Authorities under the Guise of COVID-19 Response

Human Rights House Foundation and the network of Human Rights Houses express our alarm at increasing attacks by Azerbaijani authorities on peaceful protests and dissenting and opposition voices witnessed since the outbreak of COVID-19 in the country. We call on the authorities to immediately cease these human rights violations and for the international community to hold the authorities accountable.

У маі 2020 году ўлады Беларусі пачалі шырокія рэпрэсіі супраць грамадзянскай супольнасці. Па ўсёй Беларусі былі адвольна затрыманыя і асуджаныя да штрафаў і арыштаў больш за 120 чалавек. Праваабарончая супольнасць Беларусі патрабуе спыніць пераслед мірных дэманстрантаў, праваабаронцаў і журналістаў і вызваліць тых, хто адбывае арышт.

Belarusian authorities must cease attacks on human rights defenders and journalists

Human Rights House Foundation is observing with increasing concern the wave of arrests and disappearances of human rights defenders and journalists across Belarus. Against the backdrop of worrying increases in COVID-19 infections and the August 2020 Presidential elections, the actions by Belarusian authorities to intimidate human rights defenders and limit the spread of information by independent journalists are alarming.

Ukrainian CSOs on the treatment of persons in detention in Crimea during Covid-19 Crisis

Nine Ukrainian CSOs including Human Rights House Crimea and all of its member organisations have jointly raised concerns on the treatment of persons in detention in Crimea during Covid-19 Crisis. They call on the Russian Federation as the peninsulas occupying power to take effective measures to combat Covid-19 in penitentiary systems. They also call on the international community to urge the Russian Federation to abide by its international human rights obligations, adhere to the recommendations of the WHO and the CPT, and to provide persons in detention with adequate care and medical assistance.

Global NGO community calls on UN and member States to maintain human rights focused response to COVID-19

Human Rights House Foundation stands with the global NGO community in advocating for human rights to be at the centre of the United Nations’ coordinated response to the COVID-19 pandemic and calling on States to respect the rule of law and legal protections for human rights in their responses.
