26 студзеня Праваабарончы цэнтр “Вясна”, які намагаецца аднавіць сваю афіцыйную рэгістрацыю з 2004 году, распаўсюдзіў заяву з заклікам да беларускіх уладаў выконваць свае міжнародныя абавязальніцтвы і дазволіць рэгістрацыю гэтай арганізацыі.
Six Croatian NGOs move into HRH Zagreb
The six organizations that are founders of the Human Rights House Zagreb (HRH Zagreb) will move together and start functioning as a House within September 2009. First the building that was donated by the City of Zagreb will have to be renovated.
Maltreatment of children in Skopje orphanage
The nine year old girl run away form the orphanage “11 Oktomvri” in Skopje and managed to reach her parents’ home in Pehchevo. Her older brother (11) also run away home from the same orphanage, little before New Year’s Eve. The First Children’s Embassy in the World Megjashi emphasizes that the little girl and her brother were beaten and maltreated by the tutors in the orphanage.
Belarus: human rights NGO calls on the government to abide by commitments
On 26 January 2009, the human rights centre Viasna, which has been trying to regain its official registration since 2004, issued a statement calling upon the Belarusian authorities to abide by their international commitments and allow the registration of this human rights NGO.
Last of Ethiopian troops leave Somalia
-The Ethiopians have left Baidoa, bound for their border with Republic of Somalia,- said Mr Abdullahi Ali Madeey, a trader in Baidoa. Following the withdrawal of the troops from the presidential compound, the livestock market and the airport, the forces of the Transitional Federal Government (TFG) and local clan militias are guarding the main installations.
Dr. Denis Mukwege awarded first African of the Year Award
Dr. Mukwege, founder of the Panzi hospital in eastern DR Congo, was awarded the first African of the Year Award – an initiative of the Media Trust in Nigeria.
Time for change in Turkey
Rafto Laureate Leyla Zana attended the 5th international conferance on EU, Republic of Turkey and the Kurds in Brussels on 28 January. Zana, together with several speakers, expressed their request for real changes in the Republic of Turkey.

ICC opens its first trial against Congolese warlord
The International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH) and its member organisations in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Association africaine des droits de l’Homme (ASADHO), Groupe Lotus and Ligue des électeurs, welcome the opening of the International Criminal Court’s (ICC) trial of Thomas Lubanga Dyilo on Monday 26 January. Thomas Lubanga Dyilo, right, is accused of having committed war crimes in the district of Ituri, Province Orientale, DRC between September 2002 and August 2003.
