Evicted from Melikishvili str. # 47 live in the street

On April 28 this year, 13 families were evicted from the building in Melikishvili str. # 47. The fate of the homeless people is still unclear. Among evicted people are little children, old and bed-bounded sick people.

Mikalai Statkevich will remain in prison for another year and a half

The trial of a political prisoner Mikalai Statkevich on changing the regime of serving his sentence to prison confinement took place on 4 May in Shklou penal colony №17. The basis for the regime change are claimed to be numerous violations of internal regulations of the colony and disobeying the requirements of the colony administration. In a letter to his wife Maryna Adamovich, Statkevich wrote that he had been placed in cell-type premises.

Падставай для змены рэжыму сталі шматлікія парушэнні правілаў унутранага распарадку калоніі і непадпарадкаванне патрабаванням кіраўніцтва. У лісце сваёй жонцы Марыне Адамовіч ён пісаў пра тое, што змешчаны ў памяшканне камернага тыпу (ПКТ).

Roma Population in Georgia

According to official information about 1500 Roma are registered in Georgia. Their big part lives in Tbilisi and Gachiani. In accordance to the survey conducted by the project researcher at the European Center for Minority Issues [ECMI] Giorgi Sordia, compact settlements of Roma people are in Leninovka village of Dedoplitskaro district, in Gachiani village of Gardabani municipality, in Telavi, Kutaisi, Kobuleti and in Isani-Samgori district and Lilo settlement in Tbilisi. The oldest and most traditional settlement of Roma people is in Leninovka where 18 Roma families/133 people live. Residents of this settlement have one common problem: majority of them have no access to education and healthcare services.

The second round of the UPR: Report of Belarus discussed in the UN Human Rights Council

On 4 May Belarus presented the report to the Human Rights Council in the framework of the Universal Periodic Review (UPR). This is the second cycle of the UPR for Belarus, so the country reported on the implementation of recommendations that were received after the first round of the UPR in 2010.

4 траўня ў межах працэдуры Універсальнага перыядычнага агляду (УПА ) Беларусь прадставіла справаздачу Савету па правах чалавека ААН. Гэта ўжо другі раўнд УПА для Беларусі, таму краіна паведаміла пра выкананне рэкамендацый, якія былі атрыманыя па выніках перашага раўнда UPR у 2010 годзе.

Belarusian authorities continue to ban foreign human rights defenders from entering the country

Lars Bünger, president of the international human rights organization Libereco – Partnership for Human Rights was denied a Belarusian visa. This is the fourth denial for the human rights defender, whose organisation has been campaigning for the release of political prisoners in Belarus over the last four years. Earlier, he was denied a visa in 2010, 2011 and 2013.
