HFHR as the RAXEN National Focal Point
The Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights has been nominated for the second time to serve the function of the National Focal Point in the European RAXEN network, which gathers information on the subject matter of racism, xenophobia, anti-Semitism, Islam phobia and anti-Roman activity. It will serve this function until the end of 2004. (17-JUN-04)
Human Rights Workshops for Students
The 4th edition of the Human Rights Workshops for Students, organised by the HFHR, has come to an end. On June 2, 30 people received their certificates. However, first they had to pass an examination on human rights theory and complete the practical part, which meant taking up activity in support of human rights. (04-JUN-04)
Independent observers on the streets of Warsaw during the European Economic Summit
Warsaw is preparing for the European Economic Summit that will commence on the 28th of April 2004. It is expected that the arrival of politicians will be the cause for the arrival of various alterglobalist groups. Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights representatives are going to monitor the situation on the streets. (23-APR-04)
Travelling Festival “Human Rights in Film”
The Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights is organizing its second Travelling Festival devoted to the presentation of documentary films on the subject of human rights. From 31.03 until 02.04 the Festival was held in Bialystok, the largest city of NE Republic of Poland. (05-APR-04)
A Tolerant Krakow?
The Festival of gay and lesbian culture, organised by the Campaign against Homophobia, took place in Krakow between May 6th and 9th. One of its main events was the march of gays, lesbians and the Campaign´s supporters to Wawel castle, which took place on May 6th. It was accompanied by an illegal counter-demonstration the participants of which threw eggs, stones and bottles at the marching group. (12-MAY-04)

The Silesian Nation – is there such a thing?
The Grand Chamber of the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg turned down a complaint filed against Republic of Poland concerning the violation of Article 11 of the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms associated with the Polish courts´ refusal to register the Union of People of Silesian Nationality. Youth against xenophobia
On the 10th of March a group of young people, who participated in the seminar “Youth Against Racism, Xenophobia and Anti-Semitism”, left Warsaw. 16 students from all over Republic of Poland worked together for 5 days, reflecting on what exactly xenophobia is and how it should be combated.(12-MAR-04)
