Petition to stop the EU fisheries in Western Sahara
The Fish Elsewhere! campaign has launched a petition which calls on the EU to immediately halt all fishing in the waters of occupied Western Sahara. The current EU fishing offshore occupied Western Sahara – which Morocco occupied in 1975 – is clearly undermining the UN peace efforts, the campaigners say.
Malnourished children abandoned
Malnutrition kills between 3.5 and 5 million children under five each year. A new report from Doctors Without Borders reveals that the world’s richest countries overall spend only $350 million to combat the problem, or 3 percent of World Bank’s recommendation.
Sweden may recognise Western Sahara (updated)
The party congress of the Swedish Social Democratic Party has demanded
that Sweden recognise Moroccan-occupied Western Sahara as the first
country in Europe. After a few days, Morocco ordered the immediate departure
of a Swedish diplomat accused of cooperation with Western Sahara-linked “separatists”.
Petition to support human rights defender in Vietnam
“Front Line” is deeply concerned that on 19 October 2009 human rights defender, Mrs Tran Khai Thanh Thuy was reportedly moved to prison in Hanoi, following her arrest on 8 October on charges of assault. Members of her family have reported she was the victim of an assault at the hands of police agents, and the photograph used as evidence against her has been doctored.
Rafto Symposium and Rafto Award in Bergen (updated)
Journalist from Republic of Azerbaijan Malahat Nasibova gave her speech at the Rafto Symposium about the fight for freedom of expression on October 30. Yesterday she received the Rafto Prize. Almost simultaneously, two journalists were sentenced in the Republic of Azerbaijan on defamation charges.

Amnesty protesting against HR violations by Shell in Nigeria
Amnesty International activists campaigned yesterday on Shell stations across the country with the requirement: Clean up in Nigeria. Starting with the kick-off yesterday, over 300 activists will take part in actions near 60 petrol stations during the promotion month.
