U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton visited Sarajevo last week where she held meetings with members of the tripartite presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) calling them to overcome ethnic divisions that recent elections yet again confirmed, and gave a speech to students of Sarajevo University regarding their role in the process of BiH’s accession to EU.
Law on prohibition of discrimination discriminates sexual minorities in BiH
Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) is currently undergoing the process of integration into the European Union (EU). All member states of the EU, as well potential member states, including Bosnia and Herzegovina, are obliged to harmonize their national legislation fully with the EU law, which is particularly related to EU directives. However, the law on prohibition of discrimination in BIH is not responding to these standards.
No major changes after elections in BiH
Elections in Bosnia-Herzegovina appear to have perpetuated the country’s persistent ethnic divisions. With the votes counted, results show that in the contest for the tripartite presidency, Muslim and Croatian voters have chosen moderates who favor cooperation, but in the Serbian entity, the winning candidate stands for separatism.
