Condemnation of rights violations surrounding the 1 December 2021 protest in Baku

Human Rights House Foundation (HRHF) condemns the actions undertaken by the Azerbaijani authorities against peaceful protesters in Baku on 1 December 2021. HRHF calls on the Azerbaijani authorities to immediately stop on-going attacks against freedom of assembly and expression, release those detained on 1 December’s peaceful protests, and immediately and thoroughly investigate all alleged acts of torture and ill-treatment.

Statement on Events Surrounding the 8 March 2021 March in Central Baku

Human Rights House Foundation condemns the latest attacks against women human rights defenders in Azerbaijan, including the abhorrent practise of targeting their privacy. We call on the Azerbaijani authorities to immediately stop the violations of the freedom of assembly and expression of their citizens, as well as to take steps to ensure the protection of all human rights defenders, including women human rights defenders and young human rights defenders.

Joint statement on non-implementation of ECHR judgments against Azerbaijan

The European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) has rendered judgments identifying the politically motivated prosecution of sixteen different people in Azerbaijan. So far, only two of these judgments have been implemented – and only in regard to individual measures. The European Implementation Network has joined with eight other NGOs including Human Rights House Foundation to highlight this ongoing situation and call for urgent action.

HRHF statement on recent escalation of conflict in the Nagorno-Karabakh region

Human Rights House Foundation is concerned with reports of renewed hostilities along the line of contact in the Nagorno-Karabakh region which have resulted in dozens of reported deaths and serious injuries to many more. We urgently call for the de-escalation of violence and rhetoric and remind all sides that efforts to resolve the conflict must incorporate a human rights-based approach that is normatively based on international human rights standards and operationally directed toward promoting and protecting human rights.

Azerbaijani authorities must cease crackdown on dissenting voices, and release political prisoners

Human Rights House Foundation is very concerned about the expansion of persecution of dissenting voices in Azerbaijan. This is a deeply worrying trend that has taken place over many years and only increased under the guise of Covid-19 response since March.

HRC44: Freedom of Assembly and Association

On 10 July 2020, Human Rights House Foundation delivered a statement at the Human Rights Council on Freedom of Assembly and Association. The statement highlighted by authorities on peaceful protests and dissenting and opposition voices in Azerbaijan, and the violent suppression peaceful protests ahead of the Belarusian Presidential election in August.
