Somali journalist freed after 20 days’ imprisonment
The National Union of Somali Journalists (NUSOJ) today welcomes the release of journalist Jama Ayanle Feyte from Bossasso jail after the president of Puntland’s pardon. Bossasso Court convicted Jama Ayanle Feyte for libel and insult of Puntland leaders and dissemination of false information on Somali news websites. Feyte’s original sentence was for two year’s imprisonment.

SEEMO/IPI condemns threats against journalists in RS
The South East Europe Media Organisation (SEEMO) strongly condemns the recent threats made against Slobodan Vaskovic (on right), a journalist from Banja Luka, Republika Srpska (RS), entity of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Vaskovic received a threatening letter, signed by a group calling itself the Serbian Avengers, following reports about the Serbian Orthodox Church in his publication, Novi Magazin.
There’s a better life in the Shelter Center
The UNHCR and the Red Cross of the City of Skopje have made an in-kind donation to Shelter Center which is run by Macedonian Women’s Rights Center (MWRC). With this help, the Shelter became better place for women and children victims of domestic violence.

Republic of Congo TV station suspended over political footage
Authorities in the Republic of Congo should immediately lift their ban on private TV station Canal Bénédiction Plus (CB Plus), the Committee to Protect Journalists said today. The ban was enacted in February in response to political coverage in the lead-up to presidential elections in July.

Human Rights House Foundation welcomes the 9 April decision of the Baku Appellate Court to annul the ruling of 7 April 2009 by the Yasamal District Court Judge Tahir Ismayilov against Tezadlar newspaper’s Chief Editor Asif Marzili, to free him, and to return the case back to the first instance court for reconsideration.
South East Europe petition for EU accession
The Helsinki Committee for Human Rights (HCHR) in Bosnia and Herzegovina with representatives of civil society from countries throughout South East Europe (SEE), urges the EU to consider integrating all of the SEE countries together. -A simultaneous integration will be the only way to ensure a peaceful, just and secure future for the people of the region, argues the HCHR.
