In Minsk, civic activists were convicted for expressing solidarity with Ukraine – placing flowers and lighting candles near the monument to Taras Shevchenko. Participants of the solidarity action were fined and arrested for 5 to 15 days.

Side-event at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe on media freedom and the extended crackdown on journalists in Azerbaijan

On 15 January a guidebook of the socio-political landscape of Belarus with stories about the Belarusians, who were directly related to the modern Belarusian history over the last 15-20 years, was presented in Vilnius. The presentation of “Contemporary History in Faces”, the book by a famous Belarusian journalist Aliaksandr Tamkovich (right) was held in the Barys Zvozskau Belarusian Human Rights House and gathered together several dozen of persons concerned – journalists, diplomats, human rights defenders, civil society activists.

On 13 January the court turned down the complaint about the decision of the District Department of Internal Affairs on her expulsion from Belarus, lodged earlier by human rights defender Elena Tonkacheva (right).

15 студзеня ў Вільні была прадстаўленая кніга-экскурс па грамадска-палітычным ландшафце Беларусі з нарысамі пра беларусаў, якія цягам апошніх 15-20 гадоў мелі непасрэднае дачыненне да найноўшай беларускай гісторыі. Прэзентацыюя кнігі вядомага беларускага журналіста Аляксандра Тамковіча (на фота) “Найноўшая гісторыя ў асобах” прайшла ў Беларускім доме правоў чалавека імя Б. Звозскава і сабрала некалькі дзесяткаў зацікаўленых – журналістаў, дыпламатаў, праваабаронцаў, грамадскіх актывістаў.

13 студзеня суд адмовіў праваабаронцы Алене Танкачовай (на фота) у задавальненні скаргі на рашэнне раённага ўпраўлення ўнутраных спраў аб высылцы яе з Беларусі.

У кнізе сабраныя нарысы пра 70 вядомых у Беларусі і за яе межамі людзей, якія на працягу апошніх 15-20 гадоў мелі непасрэднае дачыненне да найноўшай беларускай гісторыі. The mother of the executed Aliaksandr Hrunou, petitions the President, both Houses of Parliament, the Supreme Court and the Government asking the officials to propose the Constitutional Court to amend the Criminal Executive Code, which prohibits returning the body of the executed person and disclosing the places of their burial.

Homel activist Yury Rubtsou (right), who was convicted of insulting the judge, will serve his sentence in open-type correctional facility No. 7 in the village of Kuplin, Pruzhany district. Previously, co-chair of the organizing committee of the party Belarusian Christian Democracy Pavel Seviarynets served his sentence at the same place. Rubtsou was charged with a crime under Article 391 of the Penal Code – insult of a judge.
