Sahrawis organise conference on liberated land

For the first time in decades, the deserted Western Sahara village of Tifariti is reawakening to life. Located in the strip of land close to the Mauritanian desert border that is under the control of the Sahrawi pro-independence movement Polisario, Tifariti hosted on February 26 more than 800 delegates participating in an international solidarity conference. Serbia not guilty of genocide

The International Court of Justice (ICJ) in The Hague has decided that Serbia is not guilty of genocide in Bosnia and Herzegovina. “The Court establishes that Serbia has not committed genocide through its organs or persons whose acts engage its responsibility under customary international law or through violations of their obligations for prevention and punishment of the crime of genocide “, Rosalyn Higgins, the president of the ICJ, read from the ruling. Boycott of acting President of Chechnya

Representatives of several leading human rights organizations stated that they wouldn’t take part in a human rights conference, which would be organized by acting president of the Chechen Republic Ramzan Kadyrov on March, 1st in Grozny. Human rights activists have been repeatedly accusing Kadyrov of corruption and violence against innocent civilians, of spreading his cult of personality and of acting as an absolute ruler.(25-FEB-07)

Free Kazulin!

Polish authorities and nongovernmental organizations are speaking up for the Belarusian oppositionist Alexander Kazulin, who has remained in prison since March 2006. At the end of 2006, wishing to draw the attention of the international public opinion, Alexander Kazulin began a hunger strike that lasted 54 days and left him extremely exhausted. Belarusian authorities are not allowing doctors from the International Red Cross to see him. (23-FEB-07)

Constitutional Court: Separate classes for Roma not racially motivated

By the opinion of the Consitutional Court reached yesterday, the decision to form separate classes with diminished programme of education for Roma children in Medjimurska County was justified since their knowledge of Croatian is poor.
