UK: extreme but not illegal
13 February, the UK´s Court of Appeal overturned the convictions of five young men charged under the Terrorism Act, signifying a change in how the courts deal with extremism. The main evidence against the five young men was the extremist material they had downloaded and shared on the Internet. They were prosecuted under Section 57 of the Terrorism Act 2000 for possessing articles for the purposes of terrorism. (19-FEB-08)

The year 2007 was in fact lost
Helsinki Committee for Human Rights in Bosnia and Herzegovina presented their Report on state of human rights in 2007. In the Report they underlined that the delays in implementation of reforms and repeated complication of political relations on ethnic grounds have been the main features of the previous year. Belarusian youth activists deprived of right to education
Last year numerous youth activists were crossed out from the list of students. This practice still continues. Human rights activists believe that the isolation of an active student and political activist Zmitser Zhaleznichenka by deprival of the right to education and forced recruitment to army demonstrate the real attitude of the authorities to public activists.
