HRHF expresses its concern re. recent harassment of homosexuals in BiH

The Human Rights House Foundation sent a letter today to the Prime Minister of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Mr. Nikola Spiric, expressing its concern with the recent manifestations of intolerance against homosexuals in his country. The hate speech and incitements to violently attack the participants of the forthcoming first ever queer festival in BiH has so far been met by the authorities with silence. Concern about harassment of homosexuals in B&H

HRHF expresses concern about intolerance against homosexuality

In three separate letters, to the authorities of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Republic of Kenya, and Republic of Uganda, the Human Rights House Foundation has expressed its concern today with recent manifestations of intolerance against homosexuals. In all three cases, the verbal abuse and harassment, threats, incitement to violence and unlawful arrests have only resulted in silence from the authorities. The results of the Kenyan elections were “irretrievably polluted”

The International Federation for Human Rights and its member organisation, the Republic of Kenya Human Rights Commission (KHRC) welcome the report that was released today by the Independent Review Commission (IREC) concluding that the results of the 2007 December presidential elections were “irretrievably polluted”. No election climate in Azerbaijan

The “Election 2008” NGO Coalition conducted a seminar on the theme “Public Oversight Mechanisms in Free and Fair Elections: abilities, opportunities and problems”. According to director of “Inam” Pluralism Center, Vahid Gazi (right), the role and influence of mass media during election is weak.

Two Tibetan documentary filmmakers held for past six months

Reporters Without Borders (RSF) calls on the Chinese authorities to release Dhondup Wangchen, who made a documentary about Tibet, and Jigme Gyatso, his friend and camera assistant. They have been unjustly detained since March 2008 for filming interviews with Tibetans, above all in the Amdo region of Tibet. (18-SEP-08)

Graduation from the Advanced Human Rights Course

Last week the last session of the Advanced Human Rights Course organized by the Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights (HFHR) ended. Participants from the 12 countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) came to Warsaw in order to enhance their knowledge and skills about human rights. (17-SEP-08)

Aminatou Haidar, right, is to be presented with the Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights Award for her campaign on behalf of the self-determination of Western Sahara and against government abuses and disappearances of prisoners of conscious. The ceremony will take place in Washington, D.C the morning of November 13th, in the Russell Senate Office Building´s Caucus Room. (16-SEP-08)
