New charges against political prisoner

Mikalai Autokhovich, who is considered a political prisoner by human rights defenders, is suspected in one more crime according to Article 295.3 of the Belarusian Criminal Code. He is incriminated illegal activities with weapons and ammunition.

UN HR Council renews Special Rapporteur on Sudan’s mandate

By a close margin of 20 to 18 with 9 abstentions, the United Nations Human Rights Council voted on 18 June to approve the creation of an independent expert to closely scrutinize the human rights situation in the Republic of the Sudan, effectively continuing the mandate of the U.N.’s special rapporteur on Republic of the Sudan that was created in 1993. The term of the current special rapporteur on human rights in the Republic of the Sudan expires this month. Right, the current mandate holder, Dr. Sima Samar.
