Media campaign in Croatia: Violence leaves marks

CMS recently promoted their TV video clip named “Violence leaves marks“, and published two so called ”peace posters” within their campaign „Peace in Schools“. The aim of the campaign is to raise awareness of general public and decision makers in the area of education, on issue of violence and violent behaviour among youth and its permanent consequences on the society.

ICC prosecutor targets unpunished crimes in Kenya

“FIDH and its member organization, the Kenya Human Rights Commission (KHRC), welcome the decision announced today by the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC) to address the crimes committed during the 2007/2008 post-election violence in the Republic of Kenya. The ICC Prosecutor has announced that Republic of Kenya will be the first situation where he will exercise its propio motu powers to request the opening of an investigation.

The activities of the Institute of National Remembrance should be transparent

The Supreme Administrative Court, in a verdict from 28 October 2009, stated that the Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights has the right to expect the President of the Institute of National Remembrance to explain on what legal basis the employees of the institute use the institute’s documents.

Burmese junta increases forced labour and child soldiers

50% increase in complaints of forced labour and more than half involving children and young people enrolled in the army. The military junta has inserted a provision in the Constitution that authorizes the use of civilians in the construction of roads, infrastructure, such as porters or minesweepers.

Yemen: Human rights organisation attacked

Attack on the headquarters of The Arab Sisters Forum for Human Rights was conducted following the NGO’s report on torture in Yemeni prisons. The chairperson of the Forum, Ms. Amal Al-Basha, has been terrorized by spraying a liquid in her face and subjected to serious threat as recently the security system for the rear brakes of her car was willfully damaged.
