14 сакавіка стала вядома, што Аляксандр Лукашэнка адмовіўся памілаваць Дзмітрыя Канавалава і Уладзіслава Кавалёва (на фота), асуджаных на смерць за тэракт у мінскім метро. 17 сакавіка сваякі атрымалі паведамленне з Вярхоўнага суду аб тым, што прысуд Уладзіславу Кавалёву прыведзены ў выкананне.

Łódź nurses trial comes to an end

The case brought by three nurses from Łódź, who had been dismissed for organising an allegedly illegal strike, has been completed. On appeal, the Circuit Court in Łódź upheld the decision of the first-instance court ordering re-employment of the nurses. The nurses strike in the N. Barlicki Teaching Hospital in Łódź began in early September 2008 and lasted for eleven days.

Does Poland guarantee a propoer medical care to the detained persons?

In early February 2012 the European Court of Human Rights communicated the case Gójski v. Poland. In its application Mr Gójski argues that the administration of the prison facility in which he served his sentence failed to provide him with proper health care. The applicant contends that he could not properly take care of his personal hygiene and meet his physiological needs in a cell in which he was detained.

Political and religious populism threatens freedom of expression

Political use of religious symbols and play on religious feelings undermine freedom of speech and political debate in many parts of the world. Populist politicians exploit human insecurity and powerlessness by stirring demonstrations, public rage and violent actions against members for alleged blasphemy, unbelief and lack of respect for sacred symbols. Religious-based law and scripture interpretation restrict human freedom.

‘Tsar’ Putin returns to Kremlin

Vladimir Putin is set to return to Kremlin for third term after winning Russian presidential elections on 4 March. Putin, who has dominated Russian politics since 2000, has won almost 64 per cent votes according to Russia’s central election commission. However the scale of Putin’s victory was immediately questioned by opposition leaders.
