Former political prisoner Parfiankou sentenced to six months in prison

On 29 May 2012 former Belarusian political prisoner Vasil Parfiankou was found guilty of violating the terms of preventive supervision, and sentenced to six months’ imprisonment.

HFHR comments on Ignatenko’s extradition to Russia

In February 2012, the Circuit Court in Nowy Sącz ruled that former Moscow prosecutor Alexander Ignatenko may be extradited to Russia. A month later, the Appellate Court in Cracow upheld the first-instance court decision. The case files were sent to the Minister of Justice who is to finally decide on Mr Ignatenko’s extradition. The HFHR issued an opinion in this case.

Public hearing on human rights situation in Bajo Aguán, Honduras

The Public Hearing on the Human Rights Situation in the Peasant Communities of Bajo Aguán, Honduras, was convened by nine organisations and international networks that in recent years have been monitoring the human rights situation in Honduras and in particular that of the peasant communities in the Bajo Aguán region. This monitoring effort has been carried out in coordination with local organisations.

Rafto Prize laureate re-elected as president of Uyghur congress

The World Uyghur Congress (WUC) held its 4th General Assembly in Tokyo, Japan, from May 14 to 17, attended by more than 120 Uyghur delegates from 20 countries around the world. During the assembly Uyghur democracy leader and the 2004 Rafto Prize laureate Ms. Rebiya Kadeer was re-elected WUC President.
