The Sport for Rights coalition resolutely condemns the brutal murder of Azerbaijani journalist Rasim Aliyev, who died on 9 August in a Baku hospital, after he was severely beaten on 8 August by a group of people. Rasim Aliyev had reported receiving continuous threats and intimidation via social media networks for three weeks leading up to his death.

On 4 August the action of support for the Belarusian political prisoners was held in Vilnius, organized within the framework of the International Day of Solidarity with civil society of Belarus. Several dozen people gathered in the center of Vilnius to prove that solidarity is stronger than repressions.

Anniversary of human rights defender’s arrest marks one year of unprecedented repression in Azerbaijan.

Initiative group for the nomination of the political prisoner Mikalai Statkevich as a presidential candidate in the upcoming elections has been denied registration. This, according to the head of his group Maryna Adamovich, violates the Electoral Code. The secretary of the Central Electoral Commission, in turn, has publicly expressed doubt that the voters can vote for a candidate with a criminal record.

On July 24, 2015 Baku Court on Grave Crimes held pre-trial session into the case of Khadija Ismaylova, Azerbaijan investigative journalist. The three member court collegium considered motions of the parties. Not everybody could attend the session due to small space in the court room and high number of attendees.

Friendly protesters were met with unnecessary force from Armenian police during the events in the capital on 23 June.
