WCIP, www.warandchildren.org, has focused on children born as result of contact between soldiers and local women for a long time, and welcomes the initative this conference represents to discuss the topic on a broader, international basis. “Gender, Ethnicity and Children´s Human Rights: Theorizing Babies Born of Wartime Rape and Sexual Exploitation” will focus on the fate of children born as a result of contact between people representing opposite sides in a situation of war. WCIP will attend the conference and present data on the numbers of war children conceived as a consequence of and born into conflicts since WW2. WCIP has found that both those born as a result of rape and those born out of proper, mutual relationships tend to face similar problems, especially in the post-war phase. The problems include various kinds of stigmatisation and discrimination.
