Russian human rights lawyer Karinna Moskalenko poisoned

According to Novaya Gazeta, an attempt has been made in France on the life of Russian human rights lawyer and World Movement participant Karinna Moskalenko, right. On October 13, the prosecutor in Strasbourg launched an investigation into the placement of mercury, a potent poison, into Ms. Moskalenko’s car. Ms. Moskalenko noticed that her health, and the health of her husband and children, has been deteriorating over the past week, but she does not know for sure when the car was contaminated.

The level of xenophobia in the Russian Federation in 2008

In 2008, the number of attacks owing to national intolerance in the Russian Federation declined. Deputy Director of the Information-Analytical Center “SOVA” Galina Kozhevnikova said it with reference to the monitoring data of the Center. 71 people were killed and 268 were injured as a result of racist attacks this year in the Russian Federation. Russia signed the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities

On 24 September, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on behalf of the Russian Federation signed the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. He also deposited the instrument of ratification by the Russian Federation the Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Rights of the Child on the Involvement of Children in Armed Conflict to the headquarters of the UN. Murder of Magomed Evloev

31 August Magomed Evloev he owner of an opposition website “Ingushetia.ru” as killed. Evloev died in a hospital of Nazran where he was taken after he had got a direct injury to the head, which he received during detention by law enforcement officers at the airport “Magas” in Nazran where he arrived from Moscow. Russian human rights defender, chairman of the society “Memorial” Sergey Kovalev (photo)  urged the world community to condemn the actions of the Russian Federation in Georgia. A statement of the Russian Recearch Center for Human Rights on the armed conflict in South Ossetia

The armed conflict in South Ossetia territory and other regions of Georgia which began on 8 August is still continuing. Dozens Russian and Georgian soldiers and hundreds of peaceful innocent civilians were killed. Thousands of people were forced to flee their homes to escape the bombing, artillery fire, stray bullets and looting, and ran to various regions of the Russian Federation and Georgia. The city Tskhinvali destroyed and needs to rebuild. Russian armies crossed the border of South Ossetia and remain on the territory of Georgia, in immediate proximity to Tbilisi.

Gay-pride march in Moscow imposed 155 bans

The organizers of the gay-pride march in Moscow are trying to appeal in court 155 bans on their march. On 17 July, several complaints were sent to the Tverskaya District Court of Moscow to ban marches from 12 to 31 May. Earlier, organizers appealed in court the ban on the gay-pride march, which was planed to be held from 1 to 11 May 2008. (31-JULY-08)
