UN Human Rights Committee adopted Concluding Observations on Poland
On 29 September 2010 UN Human Rights Committee published Concluding Observations on Republic of Poland. They were adopted as a result of the consideration of the Committee of the sixth periodic report of Republic of Poland (CCPR/C/POL/6) at its meetings with Polish delegation held on 12 and 13 October 2010.

Associated Press: Terror suspect gets victim status in Polish probe
Polish officials investigating a now-shuttered secret CIA prison in this country have given a Saudi terror suspect victim status, a legal advance in the detainee’s effort to show he was mistreated by interrogators, officials said Wednesday. Legal experts said Poland’s move to grant the status of victim to Abn al-Rahim al-Nashiri recognizes the validity of his claims even as U.S. courts have refused to allow cases involving rendition to move forward for national security reasons.

The UN Human Rights Committee examined the answers of the Polish Government to the list of issues
On the 100th session of the UN Human Rights Committee held in Geneva on October 13-14 2010, the Human Rights Committee recognised the answers of the Polish Government to the list of issues prepared in connection with the VI Periodic Report on the realisation of the resolutions of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR).
Intervention of Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights concerning designer drugs
On October 14 2010, Helsinki Foundation of Human Rights issued a statement concerning steps taken by the state authorities against the so called designer drugs – psychoactive drugs whose influence on the organism may be harmful. Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights underscored that this statement is a result of the concern for democratic standards.
“Human Rights and Taxes” – New Educational Program of HFHR
In the 2010/2011 academic year, the Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights (HFHR) launches a pilot educational program “Human Rights and Taxes” concerning the widely understood issues of tax law. The aim of this initiative is to study the problems associated with legislation and practical application of tax law regulations from the perspective of citizens – taxpayers.
Lawyers from Azerbaijan with a study visit to the European Court of Human Rights
Between 14 and 16 September 2010, as part of the “Strategic Litigation in the South Caucasus” project supported by the Netherlands Helsinki Committee, a group of twenty four lawyers from Republic of Azerbaijan visited the Council of Europe and the European Court of Human Rights. Among participants of the study visit was an Republic of Azerbaijan lawyer being at time an intern of the Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights.
„Dangerous” Prisoners in Strasbourg
The issue of security regime as set for the so called „dangerous prisoners” (hereinafter the „N” regime), has recently been one of the most controversial issues in Poland’s penitentiary practice. The most concerning are the procedure of classifying prisoners as „N” prisoners and the protracted detention in the „N” units, which is often extended without duly justified reasons.
