“Racism in Poland” Report
In January 2011 the Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights published the report “Racism in Poland”. According to official statistics, the number of crimes committed in the Republic of Poland with reference to race, nationality or ethnicity is small. However, some of these acts may not be reported to law enforcement, or not recorded in statistics for other reasons.
Three Polish organizations implement “Better justice system” program
The Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights (“Helsińska Fundacja Praw Człowieka”), the Civil Development Forum Foundation (“Fundacja Forum Obywatelskiego Rozwoju”) and the Polish Business Roundtable (“Polska Rada Biznesu”) has concluded an agreement on cooperation in implementation of the “Better justice system” program aiming to monitor reforms of the justice system in the Republic of Poland.

Lawyers for Lawyers is an organisation that awards fellow lawyers who work to promote the rule of law and human rights in an exceptional way and who have been threatened or obstructed because of their work as a lawyer. The Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights has recommended Intiqam Aliyev, an Azerbaijani lawyer, for the Award.
Polish Radio: US refuses cooperation with Poland’s CIA ‘black site’ probe
The U.S. Department of Justice has rejected a request from prosecutors in Warsaw for assistance in the investigation into the alleged CIA prisons in the Republic of Poland, where captives claim they were tortured.
Polish protests against election-related violations in Belarus
The Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights (HFHR) is concerned about the post-election situation in the Republic of Belarus. In a statement issued today, the Foundation protests against the massive violations of human rights by Belarusian officials related to the presidential elections held yesterday, 19 December 2010.
Report on public access to court judgments in Poland
As a part of “Better Justice System” (Lepszy Wymiar Sprawiedliwości) two NGOs: the Civic Development Forum and the Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights published a report on the availability of judicial decisions in the Republic of Poland. The aim of the program is to diagnose the current problems of the Polish judiciary and to formulate recommendations in order to reform it.

INTERIGHTS: International lawyers launch legal action in Poland on behalf of Abu Zubaydah
International lawyers have launched legal action in the Republic of Poland on behalf of Abu Zubaydah, the first victim of the CIA’s experimental torture programme, regarding crimes committed in the CIA’s ‘most important’ secret prison in Stare Kiejkuty, Republic of Poland.
FRA’s report on the discrimination on the grounds of sexual orientation and gender identity
On November 30 2010, FRA presented a report entitled “Homophobia, transphobia and discrimination on grounds of sexual orientation and gender identity – 2010 Update” to the members of the European Parliament. According to the report in some of the Member States the level of protection has improved – due to both legal developments and the changes in practice, while there are still countries where the rights of LGBT persons are limited or neglected.
