Nine monks sentenced, other committed suicide in Tibet
Nine monks studying at Samye Monastery in Tibet were sentenced to varying prison terms between 2-15 years’ in jail for their participation in the last Spring Tibet protest in Lhoka Prefecture “Tibet Autonomous Region” (‘TAR’) and a monk committed suicide, according to confirmed information received by the Tibetan Centre for Human Rights and Democracy (TCHRD).

Memorial in Oslo for Markelov and Baburova
Today, 28 January, a memorial was held outside the Russian Embassy in Oslo for human rights lawyer Stanislav Markelov and journalist Anastasia Baburova, who were brutally murdered in the center of Moscow on 19 January. In their appeals, human rights defenders and Norwegian politicians demanded the Russian Federation to take responsibility and lead a proper investigation into the murders.

Amnesty International, The Norwegian Helsinki Committee and the Human Rights House Foundation will hold a memorial for lawyer Stanislav Markelov and journalist Anastasia Baburova who were killed in Moscow on 19 January.
ECtHR Condemns the Russian Federation in Three Cases from Chechnya
The European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) today unanimously condemned the Russian Federation for the enforced disappearance of five young men and the extra-judicial killing of another man in different locations the Chechen Republic between October 2002 and April 2004, Russian Justice Initiative said today.
Mohammad Sadegh Kaboudvand awarded Hellman/Hammett Grant for persecuted writers
Human Rights Watch gives Hellman/Hammett grant to Mohammad Sadegh Kaboudvand–founder of the Human Rights Organization of Kurdistan. Kaboudvand is serving a 10 year prison term in Islamic Republic of Iran for his writings and human rights work.
