Croatia reviewed by Human Rights Committee
The UN Human Rights Committee considered the second periodic report of Republic of Croatia on its session held on 14th and 15th of October 2009, pointing out its positive aspects, but also issues of concern, and recommendations.
National campaign: To us, the crisis is always
Association for Promotion of Equal Opportunities for People With Disabilities – UPIM (APEO) has recently launched National Campaign for Disability Employment, called “To Us, The Crisis Is Always”. The aim of the Campaign is to promote the disability issue in the media and in that way, make the public sensitive, especially employers, to disability unemployment issue in the Republic of Croatia.
Osijek: Local consultations with civil society
Documenta – Center for Dealing with the Past Zagreb, Center for Peace, Non-Violence and Human Rights Osijek and Nansen Dialogue, on behalf of the Coalition Initiative of Establishing a Regional Commission for Truth-seeking and Truth-telling About War Crimes (RECOM), held a meeting in mid-October with civil society actors and religious communities in Osijek.
Support to the employment of the persons with disabilities
Workshop on employment of persons with disabilities was held on the last day of September in Bjelovar (Croatia), where mr.med.sc. Mirjana Dobranovic, president of the APEO and HSUTI Network, held a lecture on the importance of making the employees particularly, sensitive on the issues of persons with disabilities and their right and capability to work.
RECOM as rescue for post-Yugoslav countries
Center for Peace, Non-Violence and Human Rights Osijek, Nansen Dialogue Center Osijek, Luc Berak and Documenta Zagreb, have held two meetings (in Vukovar and in Pakrac) on behalf of the coalition for initiative for establishing a Regional Commission for Truth-seeking and Truth-telling About War Crimes (RECOM) in post-Yugoslav countries.
Croatia soon to be reviewed by the HRC
Republic of Croatia will be reviewed at the Human Rights Committee in Geneva from October 14th to October 15th 2009. The Government of the Republic of Croatia has already appointed its Delegation to the meeting and two members of the Human Rights House of Zagreb, as well as Center for Human Rights Zagreb, have already submitted their reports and replies.
Croatia: Educational reforms needed
The research of the Center for Human Rights Zagreb shows that Croatian schools do not offer sufficient educational content to develop children into responsible and self-aware citizens. The system of education does not function in an open and democratic way, and teachers and headmasters do not feel enough competent nor motivated to teach children of the human rights subjects.
