Croatia elections generally in line with international standards
The 23 November elections to the Parliament of the Republic of Croatia were conducted generally in line with OSCE commitments and international standards for democratic elections. However, some issues remain to be addressed, concluded the OSCE’s Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) Election Observation Mission (EOM).
Human Rights House Zagreb officially opened
The Human Rights House Zagreb (HRH Zagreb) was officially opened on 10 December, the International Human Rights Day. It was opened by the deputy mayor of the city of Zagreb, Jelena Pavicevic-Vukicevic, who stressed that the House is opened not only for associations and their programs, but for all Croatian citizens. Croatia: No justice for rape victims
On the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, B.a.B.e. devoted their activities to actualization of sex crime issues, having in mind that sexual harassment, rapes and other sex crimes clearly show how hard it is to eliminate prejudices that are being present in the heads of individuals and communities for centuries.
Kandic, Terselic and Tokaca, Schwarzkopf Europe Prize Winners
Vesna Terselic, the Leader of Documenta from Zagreb, Mirsad Tokaca, the Director of the Research and Documentation Centre from Sarajevo, and Natasa Kandic, the Executive Director of the Humanitarian Law Center (HLC) from Belgrade were awarded the annual Schwarzkopf Europe Prize this year.
Media campaign in Croatia: Violence leaves marks
CMS recently promoted their TV video clip named “Violence leaves marks“, and published two so called ”peace posters” within their campaign „Peace in Schools“. The aim of the campaign is to raise awareness of general public and decision makers in the area of education, on issue of violence and violent behaviour among youth and its permanent consequences on the society.
Freedom of expression violations in Croatia
The Human Rights House Foundation, Georgian Human Rights Centre and the Human Rights House in the Republic of Croatia are concerned about the continuous oppression of the freedom of expression in the Croatian media, especially its public services. This is a second Croatian human rights activists’ alert in the year 2009; unfortunately, there was no proper response or elicited activity on the part of the Government or the Croatian Parliament.
HRH Zagreb seeks international support
