Belarusian human rights defenders in solidarity with the Voronezh Human Rights House

More than twenty Homel civil and political activists put their signatures in support of the Human Rights House (HRH), which is located in the Russian sister city of Homel – Voronezh. The appeal was addressed to Alexey Gordeev, who is the governor of the Voronezh Region. The appeal contained a request not to deprive the Center for Human Rights, the premises, where it was located.

Belarusian activist facing jail for helping the homeless

Aliaksei Shchadrou (right), a Belarusian, who organized a shelter for the homeless, is facing charges under Article 193.1 of the Criminal Code – activities on behalf of an unregistered organization. Aliaksei is facing up to two years in prison.

New name: the Barys Zvozskau Belarusian Human Rights House

On 31 July, the new name of the Belarusian Human Rights House in Vilnius was approved. Now the official name is the Barys Zvozskau Belarusian Human Rights House. The name has been changed in honour of the prominent human rights defender, co-founder and the first president of the Belarusian Human Rights House, who has passed away in 2012 after a serious and long illness.

Actions of solidarity with Belarusian civil society held in Vilnius

On 4-5 August, at the International Day of Solidarity with Civil Society of Belarus , several actions, dedicated to the second anniversary of the arrest of Ales Bialiatski, well-known Belarusian human rights defender, took place in Vilnius. The activists organized series of information campaigns and actions in the city center and a picket near the Belarusian Embassy in Lithuania.
