Mehman Huseynov, sentenced to two years in prison for defamation, for complaining of having been tortured while in police custody, has had his conviction upheld by the Court of Appeal.

“Through this clear and principled resolution, the European Parliament shows that the recent crackdown on peaceful protestors will not go without consequences. It is a clear warning toward the Belarusian authorities to end the harassment of independent media, political opposition, and human rights defenders.”

Tatsiana Reviaka, President of the Belarusian Human Rights House, was arrested on 26 March 2017 while she monitored peaceful protests, and detained for three hours. She later received a summons to the administrative court on charges of disobeying the police and petty hooliganism.
