Sudanese human rights defenders at risk

The East and Horn of Africa Human Rights Defenders Network calls on African civil society to mobilise in solidarity with Sudanese HRDs and on African leaders to put pressure on their Sudanese Counterpart. Sudanse authorities recently shut down three leading national human rights NGOs, including all their local branches.

Azeri editor sentenced to one year in jail for defamation

The Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety (IRFS) resolutely condemns the unwarranted one-year prison sentence for defamation handed down against “Tezadlar” newspaper editor-in-chief Asif Merzili and the six-month corrective labour sentence issued against Merzili’s colleague, journalist Zumrud Mammedova.
