Amnesty demands investigation of killing of Somali radio director

Amnesty International calls on the Republic of Somalia Transitional Federal Government to open a thorough, prompt and impartial investigation, with the assistance of the international community, into the killing of Muktar Mohamed Hirabe. Muktar Mohamed Hirabe is the fifth Somali journalist to be killed in the line of their work this year and the second Director of the Somali radio station, Shabelle, to be killed in the last two years.

Kenya backs down on police killings at UN hearing

The team representing Republic of Kenya at a United Nations human rights hearing in Geneva on Wednesday dropped its plan to attack rapporteur Philip Alston, right, and owned up to police killings. In a compromise hammered out in stormy negotiations late into the night on Tuesday and all of Wednesday morning, the delegation of five ministers and eight government officials surprisingly presented a joint statement.
