Burma: political prisoner on hunger strike

Kyaw Zaw Lwin (a.k.a. Nyi Nyi Aung), right, a political prisoner in Burma’s notorious Insein Prison, is currently on hunger strike. 40-year-old Lwan, who was born in Burma but is a naturalized US citizen, is protesting his loss even of ordinary prisoner’s rights.

MWRC participates in regional fight against domestic violence

Macedonian Women’s Right Center – MWRC – took part in the conference organized by UNIFEM’s Regional Office for Central and Eastern Europe in the end of November in Sarajevo. The aim of the conference was to improve the effectiveness and accountability when assisting in protection of victims of domestic violence in Central and Eastern Europe.

Withdraw anti-gay law, Britain and Canada tell Uganda’s government

Both Britain and Canada’s prime ministers have told Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni that a proposed law that would result in homosexuals being imprisoned for life or even executed needs to be withdrawn. The proposed legislation has created a furore in Western countries with protesters saying it contravenes international human rights legislation.
