Ski action in Norway: free Hu Jia!

Hu Jia is one of thousands of prisoners of conscience in the People´s Republic of China. Some may know his name from the the People´s Republic of China campaign, organized by Amnesty during the Olympics in the People´s Republic of China in 2008. He is still imprisoned for having exercised his freedom of speech. Amnesty group at Voss has not forgotten him and wants to show that for his wife and the whole world by organizing a skiing trip.

Karen Communities Worldwide call for action to stop attacks on civilians

Karen communities in 10 countries joined forces for a global day of action on 9 March 2010, calling on the international community to take action to stop new attacks by the Burmese Army against Karen civilians. According to them, more than 2,000 civilians have been forced to flee new attacks since mid January. Karen Communities Worldwide believes dictatorship is trying to crush all resistance forces to their rule before elections due later this year.

Documenta publishes a report on the monitoring of war crime trials in Croatia

Within the framework of the project „Monitoring of War Crime Trials in the Processes of Dealing With the Past“ in the period between April 2004 and 31 December 2009, Documenta monitored a total of 68 cases at county courts in the Republic of Croatia which represents about 77.2 % of all cases that were conducted during that period or are still ongoing.

International PEN Writers in Prison Committee announces a caselist: period July to December 2009

The International PEN Writers in Prison Committee (WiPC) presents a caselist summarising all recorded attacks against writers, journalists and publishers in the period July to December 2009. The caselist also includes the total figures of attacks for the period January to December 2009. The caselist shows a slight and in some cases remarkable increase of attacks in 2009, compared with 2008.
