Bergen Burma community’s appeal to Norwegian Minister of Foreign Affairs

The Burmese community in Bergen is extremely worried about attacks by the Burmese military junta on the Karen people in Eastern Burma (Republic of the Union of Myanmar). In a letter to Jonas Gahr Støre, Norway’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, they request help from the Norwegian government.

Serbian MPs offer apology for Srebrenica massacre

Serbia’s parliament has passed a landmark resolution apologising for the 1995 Srebrenica massacre – Europe’s worst atrocity since World War II.
The motion, approved by a narrow majority, says Serbia should have done more to prevent the tragedy.

25 сакавіка праваабарончыя арганізацыі Civil Rights Defenders (Швецыя), Беларускі Дом правоў чалавека (Літва), Фундацыя Дамоў правоў чалавека (Нарвегія) і Нарвежскі Хельсінкскі камітэт накіравалі заяву пратэсту прэзідэнту Беларусі, з асуджэннем пераследу праваабаронцаў Алеся Бяляцкага, Валянціна Стэфановіча і Ірыны Тоўсцік.

HCHR in Macedonia: MOC-OA spreads hatred and judges

The Helsinki Committee for Human Rights of the Republic of Macedonia – HCHR, opposes the press release of the Synod of the Macedonian Orthodox Church – Ohrid Archbishopric (MOC-OA) issued around mid-March, which violates the human rights of certain groups of citizens of the Republic of Macedonia, enhances their stigmatization and contrary to the basic teachings of this institution, spreads hatred and takes over the role of a judge.

Spectacular police actions in B&H violating human rights

The Helsinki Committee for Human Rights in Bosnia and Herzegovina – HCHR, said that in the last police action in the case of Bratunac – Srebrenica, there was a serious violation of human rights. ‘’Due to excessive spectacularism, which recently accompanies almost all police actions in Bosnia and Herzegovina, a fundamental principle which implies a presumption of innocence until a court decision making, is persistently violated’’, it is stated in press release of the Helsinki Committee for Human Rights.

Serious charges require immediate actions

On 8 February 2010 the European Court of Human Rights informed the Polish government about a complaint by Józef Jędruch against Republic of Poland (Application no. 8915/09). Józef Jędruch claimed that custody officers violated article 3 of the European Convention on Human Rights by treating him in a humiliating and discriminatory manner during body searches.

The Supreme Court should hear appeals against assembly bans. On 3 May 2007 the European Court of Human Rights pronounced a sentence in the case “Bączkowski and others v. Poland” (complaint no. 1543/06), concerning the ban put on the Warsaw Pride Parade in 2005.
