On 23 February Human Rights House Foundation, which enjoys special consultative status under the UN Human Rights Council, submitted a statement to the competent international body informing about the human rights situation in Belarus since the adoption of the latest resolution on the country at the 17th session of the Council .

On February 28, 2012, during his annual speech in Parliament, President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili referred to a student, Mikheil Aleksidze, who has been expelled from the public school # 53 as a hooligan. He said Aleksidze was expelled because of his disobedience to the school director. Saakashvili said we live in different time and criminal mentality no longer works in public schools.

The Circuit Court in Nowy Sącz allowed Russia’s request for expulsion of Alexander Ignatenko, former first deputy prosecutor of the Moscow region. Mr Ignatenko was arrested by the Polish Internal Security Agency at the beginning of 2012. The HFHR has presented an opinion in the case. According to the Foundation, there is a reasonable concern that Mr Ignatenko’s extradition to Russian Federation may result in a violation of his rights and freedoms, including the right to a fair trial.
