Actions of solidarity with Belarusian civil society held in Vilnius

On 4-5 August, at the International Day of Solidarity with Civil Society of Belarus , several actions, dedicated to the second anniversary of the arrest of Ales Bialiatski, well-known Belarusian human rights defender, took place in Vilnius. The activists organized series of information campaigns and actions in the city center and a picket near the Belarusian Embassy in Lithuania.

4-5 жніўня ў межах Міжнароднага дня салідарнасці з грамадзянскай супольнасцю Беларусі ў Вільні прайшлі акцыі, прысвечаныя гадавіне арышту вядомага беларускага праваабаронцы Алеся Бяляцкага. Актывісты наладзілі шэраг інфармацыйных акцый у цэнтры горада і пікет каля амбасады Беларусі ў Літве.

Ales Bialiatski: 2 years arbitrarily detained in Belarus

Once again, we call upon the authorities of the Republic of Belarus to immediately and unconditionally release Ales Bialiatski. He is in detention since 4 August 2011. Since, every independent United Nations body called for his release.

Government to ratify Protocols abolishing death penalty

In July, the first reading of the government-sponsored bills on the President’s consent to the ratification of two Protocols completely abolishing the death penalty took place. The bills concern the Optional Protocol to the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and Protocol 13 to the European Convention on Human Rights which forbids the death penalty, even in times of war.

The 4th of August – the International Day of Solidarity with the Civil Society of Belarus.

As part of the International Day of Solidarity with the Civil Society of Belarus on 4-5 of August, 2013. Vilnius will host a series of events, dedicated to the anniversary of the arrest of Ales Bialiatski, the prominent Belarusian human rights defender. Ales Bialiatski was sentenced to 4.5 years of imprisonment for the activities in the field o protection of human rights in Belarus.

У межах Міжнароднага дня салідарнасці з грамадзянскай супольнасцю Беларусі 4-5 жніўня 2013г. у Вільні пройдзе шэраг акцый, прысвечаных чарговай гадавіне арышту вядомага беларускага праваабаронцы Алеся Бяляцкага. Алесь Бяляцкі быў асуджаны на 4,5 гады турэмнага зняволення за актыўную дзейнасць у абароне правоў чалавека ў Беларусі.

Belarusian graduates of ILIA project: “Such kind of knowledge is not offered in our universities”

On 19-21 July the Regional Seminar was held for the Belarusian graduates of the “Electronic Human Rights Education for Lawyers” project in Vilnius, where the graduates of the distance learning course received their diplomas and certificates, and were able to imply their knowledge during the moot court.

19-21 июля в Вильнюсе прошел региональный семинар для белорусских выпускников проекта «Дистанционное обучение адвокатов правам человека», в рамках которого выпускники курса дистанционного обучения получили дипломы и сертификаты, а также смогли продемонстрировать свои знания в рамках тренировочного судебного процесса.

Defamation trial to set limits of freedom of online expression

A trial of Witold K., charged with defamation of his former employer, was launched in the District Court in Bydgoszcz. On one of the websites the defendant described his company as a “Polish labour camp”. The K.’s former workplace is a supported employment enterprise. On commencing his employment Witold K. was classified as having a mild level of disability. According to the defendant the company violated a number of labour laws.

Statement on exclusion of rehabilitation equipment from judicial enforcement proceedings

Under Polish law, rehabilitation equipment is not excluded from collection proceedings conducted by court enforcement officers. The Code of Civil Procedure contains an exhaustive list of movables which cannot be made subject to judicial enforcement. Rehabilitation equipment is not included in the list.
