The Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights has yet another time informed the Ministry of the Interior about the practice of expelling foreigners before the Provincial Administrative Court in Warsaw can hear their appeal against a decision declining them refugee status.

Do Polish secret services use tools for the remote control of computers and phones?

The Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights has filed access to public information motions with the Internal Security Agency and the Central Anti-corruption Bureau, requesting the agencies to disclose whether they operationally use Remote Control System (RCS) software.

Lithuanian MPs become “godparents” of the Belarusian political prisoners

On 25 March during the celebration of Freedom Day in Vilnius the initiative to appoint Lithuanian MPs as patrons of each of the ten Belarusian political prisoners was announced. This will provide a more personalized monitoring of health status and conditions of detention of each of those, who have been imprisoned for political reasons.

Opposition activists sentenced in Azerbaijan – letter to Ministry of Foreign Affairs

In March 2014, an Azerbaijani court sentenced the politician Ilgar Mammadov and the journalist Tofig Yagublu. The former has received a prison sentence of seven years, while the latter has been sentenced to five years and six months in prison. The charges filed against Mr Mammadov and Mr Yagublu were based on provisions of Azerbaijan’s Penal Code prohibiting the causing of riots.

HFHR’s statement on detained civic journalist

Responding to the pre-trial detention of the civic journalist Paweł M. the HFHR has sent a letter to the Regional Prosecutor’s Office in Zielona Góra. In summer 2012 the man posed as the Cabinet’s staff member to expose the head judge of the Gdańsk’s Circuit Court, who expressed a willingness to cave in to the apparent political pressure in the case of the former boss of Amber Gold accused of orchestrating the notorious financial fraud scheme.

Roundtable on protection of women human rights defenders

About the event:

Women activists who work on women-specific issues face great hostility worldwide as compared to their male counterparts.

This event will be looking at the regional trends and challenges faced particularly by Women Human Rights Defenders in Croatia. The UN Resolution on Protection of Women Human Rights Defenders will also be presented during the roundtable.

10 March 2011 Human Rights House Azerbaijan was ordered to seize all activities in Azerbaijan until an agreement with the authorities was adopted. Three years after, the Human Rights House Azerbaijan is still closed.

UN independent experts question the arrest of Anar Mammadli

In a joint communication to the President Aliyev, sent on 26 November 2013, and published for the 25th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council, the Special Rapporteur on the rights to freedom of peaceful assembly and of association and the Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights defenders, expressed their concern about the targeting of the Election Monitoring and Democracy Studies Centre (EMDSC).

Disclosure of personal data of Honorata Kaczmarek – application to ECtHR

Honorata Kaczmarek made an application to the European Court of Human Rights arguing, among other things, that her right to privacy had been violated. The case involves the publication of Ms Kaczmarek’s personal data during a notorious press conference.
