Employment at HRHF: Information Officer

We are now looking for an Information Officer (IO) to our offices in central Oslo.
Our Information Officer has responsibility for the organisation’s website, including the subpages for existing and new members. The position is also in charge of operating and updating the organization’s presence on social media. IO will in addition create, coordinate and operate all the graphic design and production of annual report, information materials, campaigns, and other printed or digital material.

Employment at HRHF: Political Advisor

For a new established position, we are now looking for a Political Advisor (PA) to our offices in central Oslo.

Our Political Advisor will be a key resource in the organisation and work closely with our Executive Director, and follow up and assist our Executive Director (ED) in a proactive manner to ensure efficiency and quality in her work and the organisation as well. Our PA shall, on an independent and outreach initiative, collect, analyse and summarize reports to support our Executive Director and organisation.

We are now looking for a Media Advisor (MA) to our offices in central Oslo.

The Media Advisor will lead and be in charge of the organization’s Public Relation function. The position will also be in charge of developing and managing HRHF’s key media communications and develop good relations and networks. Furthermore, MA will develop information and editorial strategies for the organization.

Releasing information on a refugee violates Geneva Convention

According to media reports, Vietnamese officials visited in April the Białystok guarded centre for foreigners. The Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights has issued a statement in the case to the Chief Commissioner of the Border Guard. Once again, the HFHR noted that any actions of the Border Guard which result in disclosing identification data of refugee applicants may violate the applicants’ rights.

Ukraine: Human rights must be basic principle to end violence

The sense of impunity for all the parties in Ukraine holding weapons must end. Ukraine’s Government needs to ensure that the investigation into violence by law enforcement and State agents is credible and transparent, bringing those responsible to justice. Cooperation by all with international mechanisms must also be ensured.

Be careful with your praise

A new blog launched by the Polish Department for Strategy and Deregulation, recently published a post praising an interactive portal on the Azerbaijani justice system. Nevertheless, the author of the post fails to mention the problems within the Azerbaijani justice system that makes Azerbaijan the weakest link among the Council of Europe member states when it comes to respecting Human Rights. The praising author fails to recognize that the latter problems will simply not disappear by launching a portal.

World Hockey Championship: detentions, a ban on entry and warnings for human rights defenders

Ice Hockey World Championship is to be held from 9 to 25 May 2014 in Minsk. On this occasion, representatives of international and national human rights organizations launched several campaigns to draw attention to the human rights situation in Belarus. Belarusian authorities, in their turn, have begun preventive detentions and banned Swedish human rights defender from entering the country.
