У межах Міжнароднага дня салідарнасці з грамадзянскай супольнасцю Беларусі 4 жніўня ў Вільні пройдзе акцыя на знак падтрымкі палітзняволеных беларусаў. Менавіта 4 жніўня ў 2011 годзе ў Мінску быў арыштаваны вядомы беларускі праваабаронца Алесь Бяляцкі. І хоць ён быў датэрмінова вызвалены ў 2014 годзе, ціск на праваабаронцаў і актывістаў не спыніўся. Як мінімум 6 палітвязняў застаецца за кратамі ў Беларусі, і ў свеце надыходзячых выбараў Прэзідэнта, якія прызначаныя на 11 кастрычніка, няма гарантый, што новых выпадкаў пераследу па палітычных матывах не будзе.
CEC secretary: “How can you respect a man, who has criminal record?”
Initiative group for the nomination of the political prisoner Mikalai Statkevich as a presidential candidate in the upcoming elections has been denied registration. This, according to the head of his group Maryna Adamovich, violates the Electoral Code. The secretary of the Central Electoral Commission, in turn, has publicly expressed doubt that the voters can vote for a candidate with a criminal record.
Trial on Khadija Ismaylova’s case – observers not allowed
On July 24, 2015 Baku Court on Grave Crimes held pre-trial session into the case of Khadija Ismaylova, Azerbaijan investigative journalist. The three member court collegium considered motions of the parties. Not everybody could attend the session due to small space in the court room and high number of attendees.

Insights from monitoring mission to Yerevan

New obstacle for Belarusian election observers
The presidential elections in Belarus are scheduled for 11 October. While the initiative groups of candidates are getting registered in the Central Election Commission, and the election campaign is only launching, there is already a surprise for the election observers – during the current presidential elections, there will be the requirement of the mandatory accreditation for national observers for the first time.

Baku Court launched hearing of cases against Azerbaijan human rights defenders Leyla and Arif Yunus
On July 15, Baku Court on Grave Crimes held hearing into the cases of Leyla and Arif Yunus, famous couple of Azerbaijan human rights defenders. Leyla is charged for illegal entrepreneurship, evasion from payment of taxes, fabrication of documents and swindle. The last charge is imposed on her husband too. The prosecutor’s office blames them in high treason too, though it is a separate case and preliminary investigation is still going on.
Prominent lawyers call for the release of Intigam Aliyev
95 lawyers from 24 countries call for the immediate and unconditional release of human rights lawyer Intigam Aliyev. He has been in jail in Azerbaijan since 8 August 2014.
The mandate of the Special Rapporteur on Belarus extended for another year
According to the results of voting during the 29 session of the Human Rights Council, it was decided to extend the mandate of the UN special rapporteur on Belarus for another year.During this session, the Special Rapporteur on Belarus, Miklós Haraszti (right) has also presented a report on the current human rights situation in the country.

Statkevich – political prisoner, who is planed to be put up as a presidential candidate
Six political prisoners remain imprisoned in Belarus, among them – the ex-presidential candidate in the 2010 elections, Mikalai Statkevich. A number of democratic structures united around the initiative to nominate Statkevich as a president in the current elections. This step should serve as manifestation of solidarity and draw public attention to the problem of political prisoners, who are still under pressure in prisons.
