Election aftermath: Call to stop violence and release the detained

Over 50 partners of the Human Rights House Network sent a letter of concern to the President of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko today, condemning the crackdown on demonstrators, arrests and beatings of journalists, human rights defenders and opposition candidates, which happened in the aftermath of the Presidential elections on 19 December 2010 in the Republic of Belarus.

Concerning the political prisoner Nikol Pashinyan

48 members of the Human Rights House Network and of the South Caucasus Network of Human Rights Defenders have issued a statement in which they express deep concern about the recent attacks on the Armenian political prisoner Nikol Pashinyan and call upon the authorities of the Republic of Armenia to immediately release him.

Online petition calling for respect of human rights

On the International Human Rights Day, 10 December, 12 international civic and human rights organisations start a joint online petition at www.belarus-petition.org. The human rights defenders urge the acting President of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko and the 19 December 2010 newly elected President to respect and guarantee human rights in the Republic of Belarus.

Parliamentary elections cannot be considered free and fair

Mobile election monitoring group in the Republic of Azerbaijan, consisting of members of the Human Rights House Network, regrets the fact that the parliamentary elections in the Republic of Azerbaijan cannot be considered free and fair because of the widespread irregularities and fraudulent practices.

Call upon Ukraine to stop harassment and repressions of HR defenders, journalists and academics

Concerned about the increased repressions of human rights defenders, journalists and academics in Ukraine, 45 organisations, most of them members of the Human Rights House Network, issued a letter of concern today, calling upon the Ukrainian authorities to respect their international human rights obligations.

Joint open letter to President of Azerbaijan re Eynulla Fatullayev’s case

Eleven organisations have issued a joint open letter to President Aliyev expressing strong concern regarding the continued imprisonment of Editor-in-chief Eynulla Fatullayev, which constitutes a breach of the Republic of Azerbaijan’s international legal obligations and a violation of Mr Fatullayev’s rights.

Regarding criminal prosecution of Nadezhda Nizovkina and Tatiana Stetsura

The participants of the conference “Human Rights: Between Law and Morals” and partner organisations of the project “Electronic Human Rights Education for Lawyers”, issued a letter of concern today regarding the criminal prosecution of lawyer and journalist Nadezhda Nizovkina and lawyer Tatiana Stetsura. Ms. Nizovkina and Ms. Tatiana Stetsura had been held defendants in a criminal case for inciting hatred against the Russian bodies.

Call for support of the right to freedom of association and peaceful assembly

Human Rights House Foundation and members of the South Caucasus Network of Human Rights Defenders are concerned about the restrictions on the freedom of assembly and association in the South Caucasus and call upon the Organisation for Security and Co-Operation in Europe (OSCE) and its Member States to give priority to strengthen mechanism, ensuring that the right to freedom of association and peaceful assembly are respected.
